Our School

OUR MISSION

The mission of the Montessori School of Oakton (MSO) is to provide an enriched educational environment, based upon Montessori principles, that will guide, nurture and stimulate the fullest development of each individual child.

Our School

We are a family-oriented Montessori school located on Main Street in Fairfax, VA. The school occupies five classrooms and has a playground, garden and nature areas adjacent to the building. We strive to provide beautiful environments, a challenging program and a supportive school community to serve children from three to twelve years of age.

Since its founding in 1981, the Montessori School of Oakton has offered a unique program in which skilled professionals, sensitive and responsive to the learning patterns and needs of each child, help the child to grow in confidence, independence and knowledge. At MSO there is a special blending of freedom and responsibility, choice and structure, creativity and discipline, individual interest and group cooperation.

Today the Montessori School of Oakton has an enrollment of about 100 students, ranging from age three through the sixth grade. We have three Primary Classes (3 – 6+) and one Elementary Class (6 – 12). We serve a diverse population of students and families.

MSO is a non-profit, non-sectarian school, which admits all children regardless of race, creed, color or origin.

Accreditation

The Montessori School of Oakton is recognized by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), is a full member of the American Montessori Society (AMS), is a member of the Virginia Council for Private Education (VCPE) and is licensed by the Virginia Department of Education.

We would welcome the opportunity to meet and show you our school. We schedule tours regularly, which will allow you to observe our students at work. Please give us a call to arrange your first visit. Until then, please feel free to contact us personally if you have any further questions

“MSO has made such a positive impact in my children’s lives, setting them on a course for independent learning and curiosity that will guide them for life. It has also made a positive impact on our family overall providing a space where we have made lifelong friends.”

Diana Rothe-Smith

“The solid Montessori program is what brought us to the school initially, but it is the heart of MSO which has kept us here."
