Oh what a night!

The warm sounds of Sin Miedo (Spanish for “Fearless”) filled the air as the parents and friends of the Montessori School of Oakton celebrated the Latin influences of our world. MSO’s 12th Annual Spring Gala Auction Fundraiser was held on March 13th and what a night it was! Over 120 tickets were sold and MSO brought in over $19,000 in sales from the over 200 items donated by local and national businesses and families.

The night started at 6PM with the Silent auction and delicious hors d'oeuvres and by 7:00 PM the Atrium of the Fairfax Marriott was buzzing with friends and family vying for that coveted last bid on items starting to close for the night. The ‘Early bird’ Montessori Book by Mrs. Young and the IPod were first to close and drew lots of anticipation. Then section closings came fast and furious as Master of Ceremonies, Bill Toth made announcements every 5-10 minutes.

THE SILENT AUCTION, which included donations by, Keurig, McLean, Reston Town Center, Church Street businesses in Vienna, Oakton Shopping Center, Hunter Mill Plaza, Fairfax City Businesses, Washington Capitols, Washington Nationals, Washington Redskins and many other local businesses, raised over $9,000.

When the Ballroom opened at 7:30 and the warm and enticing sounds of Sin Miedo filled the air, guests were able to sit and enjoy the great food offered up at the buffet tables. Tastes like Cuban pork tenderloin and hardy pasta to order were offered to satisfy many palates. It was hard to sit very long though as the beat of the Latin music teased you into action either on the dance floor or at the casino tables which were buzzing with activity and excitement.

DOOR PRIZES were awarded periodically to the lucky ones and included such gems as gift certificates to Applebees, Tigris Grill, Five Guys, Kennedy Center posters and many more.

THE LIVE AUCTION started at 9:30 and brought in over $9,000. Highlighted by Bill Toth’s hugely entertaining commentary, the live auction included trips to Belize, Sonoma Wine Country, Golf for four, Nationals baseball tickets, a Capitals Hockey stick autographed by Nicholas Backstrom and the much anticipated Class Auction projects among other items.

The night was a huge success for MSO thanks to the efforts of parents who brought many of their own friends and alumni of the school. The Auction committee, on behalf of the school, wish to thank all those who made this event such as success by donating items or money, donated their time and talent, and especially those who turned out for this fabulous event!
